The Order of Saint Melangell was founded on the 3rd April 2025 by the Most Reverend Mother Mariam Melangell OSM (our Mother Superior-General )in a response for the need for a inclusive, independent and welcoming religious order dedicated to Saint Melangell. We welcome everyone to join our order either as a professed member or as a lay person. 

We ourselves are an dispersed eremitic order meaning that we are dispersed throughout the world and the word "Eremitic" describes something relating to or befitting a hermit or their practices of hermitic living, characterized by ascetic solitude, and often used in a religious context. 

When a person expresses an interest in joining our order the person becomes a "Seeker" meaning they are seeking to make an enquiry to join the order. A discussion is held between the seeker and our Superior-General to determine if a calling to religious life is present.

Once the calling is determined the person then becomes a Postulant. The Postulancy lasts for six months to allow prayer and contemplation to mature the discernment of vocation. After the six months and if the Postulant wishes to progress to the Novitiate then they may petition the Most Reverend Mother for admission to temporary vows. If temporary vows are accepted the Novice will take said vows which will last for one year. 

After the year has passed the Novice can then petition the Most Reverend Mother for Solemn Life Vows. Life vows are obviously for life but the professed member can petition at any time to surrender their vows.
